First 5 Tehama is dedicated to supporting the holistic brain development of young children in Tehama County so that all of Tehama’s children can thrive physically, emotionally and cognitively. We do this by serving as a collaborator, catalyst and common link in four main focus areas that are critical to helping young children thrive and reach their full potential.
Our Mission
Through partnerships and innovative leadership First 5 Tehama promotes, facilitates and supports 0-5 systems that improve inclusive access to high-quality early education, health and family support resources.
Our focus areas include resulting outcomes in which:
Our children and families have hope, resilience, and wellbeing
Adults who influence young children’s growth and development demonstrate developmentally appropriate knowledge and practices
Our children have increased access to quality and affordable early education
Our community understands why the 0-5 foundational years matter and where to find resources

Families
Babies and young children thrive when they have secure relationships with caring adults, stability, and loving interactions. From pregnancy onward, families can create a nurturing environment that encourages this crucial growth. Early literacy, reading together, and play-based learning are all essential to a child’s development. Families with strong support systems—such as social networks—are better equipped to nurture this early growth. Explore resources and tips to help create this foundation for success.

90% of children’s brains are developed by age 5. To help families in this critical time First 5 Tehama provides resources, education and connections when families need it most.
Providers
The first few years of life are a golden opportunity to shape a child’s future. During this critical time, providing care that’s culturally, developmentally, and linguistically relevant helps kids build the social and emotional skills they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Spotting developmental or behavioral concerns early—and connecting families to the right resources—can have a powerful impact on a child’s lifelong success. First 5 Tehama is here to support local providers in making this difference happen.

Explore local resources for families with children ages 0-5 to learn and grow together. Access early literacy tools like free books, connect with supportive networks such as Help Me Grow, attend parenting classes like Triple P, or find postpartum support with programs like Circle of Hope. These resources are here to help you build a strong foundation for your child’s development.
